Saylo keeps your voice on your computer.
Saylo does not collect personal data. Speech is turned into text on your own computer, and nothing you say or type is sent to us or anyone else.
Effective 1 October 2026. Applies to the Saylo app (Mac App Store and direct download) and to saylo.dev.
What the app does with your data
- Audio is recorded only while you hold the hotkey, or between the two taps in hands-free mode. It is transcribed in memory on your computer and then discarded. It is never written to disk or uploaded.
- Text is typed into the app you are using. To do that, Saylo briefly places it on the clipboard and then restores what was there before.
- History and statistics (your dictations, word counts, speaking speed and timing measurements) are saved in files on your computer so you can search them in Settings. They are never synced or sent anywhere. You can turn history off, or clear it, in Settings.
- Settings and vocabulary are stored on your computer only.
Saylo has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no tracking of any kind.
Permissions
- Microphone: to hear you while you dictate.
- Accessibility: so the hotkey works while another app is in front, and so Saylo can paste the text into that app. Saylo reacts only to its own hotkey and Esc. It does not record what you type.
Network requests
The app makes these requests, and none of them includes your audio, your text or anything that identifies you:
- Speech model downloads from huggingface.co, when you choose a model or when first-run setup picks one for your computer. Hugging Face receives the request like any web server does, including your IP address. Its privacy policy applies to that request.
- Update checks (direct download from saylo.dev only): every few hours the app fetches a small version file from saylo.dev, and downloads the new version when there is one. You can turn this off in Settings. The Mac App Store version gets its updates from the App Store and never makes this request.
The speech engine runs on your computer and listens only on 127.0.0.1, so it cannot be reached from the network.
The saylo.dev website
The website counts anonymous browser sessions and completed installer downloads by platform. It sets no cookies, uses no third-party trackers and does not store IP addresses. The site is hosted on Amazon Web Services, whose servers may keep standard request logs.
Children
Saylo collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new effective date.
