What's new in Saylo
Saylo updates itself in the background and asks before restarting. You can also check from the menu bar icon.
0.1.7 · 2 November 2026 · Mac and Windows
- Saylo Pro, free to try. Optional Polish in the cloud tidies long dictations: fillers out, grammar fixed, lists and email layout added, your own words kept. Press “Try Saylo Pro” in the app and sign in on subscribe.saylo.dev with your email to get 1,000 free Polish words, no card needed. Dictation on your computer stays free and unlimited.
- Polish and Professional. With Polish on, your dictation key polishes dictations over 20 words. Hold ⌘ Cmd + ⌥ Option with it (Win + Alt on Windows) for a professional rewrite. Spoken lists (“the second thing… the third thing…”) become numbered lists, and “Tuesday, no wait, Wednesday” keeps only Wednesday.
- What goes online. Only the text of a dictation, never audio, and only while Polish is on. Saylo doesn’t store or log it. Turn Polish off and nothing is sent.
- Private mode. One click from the menu bar or Home pauses Polish and the leaderboard and switches Saylo to a dark theme, so you always know nothing is leaving your computer.
- A new Home. Your words, words per minute, time saved and longest streak, for the last 7 days or all time, and a weekly leaderboard for Saylo Pro users (word counts only).
- The microphone starts faster after Saylo has been idle for a while.
- Opening Saylo shows its window. Starting it at login stays silent in the menu bar.

- More voice commands. Say “next paragraph”, “line break” or “paragraph break” on their own to start a new line. Symbols work too: “dollar sign”, “rupee sign”, “em dash”, “open square bracket”, “underscore”, “forward slash” and many more, plus “smiley face” and “heart emoji”. Said as part of a sentence (“there is a new line in my doc”), they stay words.
- Lists. “Point one, call Rohan. Point two, call Priya.” is typed as a numbered list, and “bullet point” starts a bulleted one.
- Knows the website you are on. Gmail, WhatsApp Web, Slack, Teams and Google Docs in your browser are formatted like their apps: no paragraph breaks in chats. History shows the site, for example “Google Chrome · Gmail”. On a Mac, macOS asks once per browser whether Saylo may read the tab title.
- Choose your microphone. Pick an input in Settings → General. If a recording hears nothing at all, Saylo names the input instead of saying “No speech detected”.
- Language. Auto-detect is replaced by the language you choose, which starts out as your system language. Hindi keeps words that are doubled on purpose.
- Better corrections. “Let's meet tomorrow. No, no, no. Let's meet on Friday.” keeps only the second sentence, and a question followed by its answer is no longer lost.
- Faster on Windows and Intel Macs. Dictation uses one thread per processor core, and short English clips are transcribed faster with the Small model. Computers with 4 GB of memory or more now get Small instead of Base.
- Fixes. Dictating into Google Docs no longer starts with a small letter. A full stop before “new line” is kept. Long runs of “um” no longer freeze Saylo for several seconds.
- Safer. Web pages can no longer reach Saylo's speech engine on your computer. A password you copied is not put back on the clipboard after dictating. Settings are saved so that a crash cannot erase them.

- Types faster. Text is pasted directly instead of through a script, about 85 ms sooner after you let go of the key.
- Paragraphs. Long dictations are split into paragraphs at sentence ends. Saying “new paragraph” still puts one exactly where you want it, and chat apps and terminals get none.
- Cleaner text. “Um”, “uh” and verbal tics such as “you know” are removed more reliably, and the commas around them are tidied up.
- Self-corrections. “Send it to Priya, no wait, to Ananya” types “Send it to Ananya”, even when the correction comes at the very end of a recording.
- History. Clear your dictation history from Settings → History.
- Setup. If the first model download is cancelled, Saylo tries again next time. When a more accurate model suits your Mac, Settings shows “Better accuracy is available”.
- Smart cleanup removed. In our tests the optional cleanup model was no more accurate than Saylo's built-in rules and made long dictations several seconds slower. Its downloaded model (0.6–2 GB) is deleted to free the space.
Windows stays on 0.1.4 for now.

- Fits the text around the cursor. Dictating mid-sentence continues in lowercase and adds the space before your words.
- Where an app hides its text, Saylo continues from your last dictation instead.
0.1.3 · 25 September 2026
- Neural Engine. On Apple silicon, an optional Core ML encoder for Large v3 Turbo types your words about twice as fast.
- Background updates. Updates download quietly and install when you restart.
- Vocabulary. Near-misses of your vocabulary terms are corrected to the right spelling.
- Clearer messages when the speech engine has a problem.
